Prime Minister Huang Xuncai promised that he and the new cabinet team will carefully listen to the voices and suggestions of the people, take every opinion seriously, and strengthen interaction and communication with the citizens to jointly pursue the country's common vision and goals.
In his Mandarin speech during the swearing-in ceremony of the new cabinet on Friday (May 23), Prime Minister Huang stated that he and his team will welcome diverse opinions, actively engage with people from all walks of life, and commit to building a more united and inclusive society where every Singaporean can realize their potential and receive due respect and recognition.
He encouraged citizens to express their views boldly and to propose constructive ideas, stating: "We may not always agree, but as long as the starting point is for the nation's interest, we can seek common ground while respecting differences and bridge divides."
Speaking about the results of the national election after he first assumed office as Prime Minister, he noted that voters clearly understood the severe challenges Singapore faces amid the current international turmoil and made a definitive choice by granting the People's Action Party a strong mandate to govern.
"This demonstrates the unity of the nation and recognition of the country's development direction. With the vote of confidence, Singapore emerged as the biggest winner of this election. The firm support given by voters also provides us with the confidence to plan the long-term development of the nation comprehensively and meticulously."
Cultivating a Successive Team to Continue Leadership
Prime Minister Huang pointed out that to meet future challenges, he has formed a capable and dynamic cabinet team, combining seasoned leaders with newly appointed ministers to drive continued national progress.
He emphasized that the national leadership team must continuously renew itself, and thus new members must be given adequate opportunities to gain practical experience and hone their skills so they can assume greater leadership responsibilities in the future.
"Our focus is not just on the current term but more importantly on nurturing a new generation of leaders for the country's long-term development, ensuring that the nation always has successors to lead with strength."
Finally, Prime Minister Huang called on citizens to unite and create a better future for Singapore together: "Let us build a warmer home and a brighter future for ourselves, for our families, and for future generations."
