(Kuala Lumpur, 16th) An accident occurred during the escort of a drug suspect, with a police car involved in a highway 'pile-up' involving six vehicles in an instant!

A police car carrying three officers and a drug case suspect was involved in a six-vehicle pile-up during escort, which caused major traffic congestion at the scene. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured.

The accident took place on Friday (15th) at about 1:50pm, at the 231.2km marker on the southbound side of the North-South Expressway.

The police car involved was a Honda City belonging to the North Seberang Perai District Police Headquarters in Penang. At the time of the incident, it was escorting a 33-year-old male suspect involved in a drug case to the Simpang Renggam prison in Johor.

The other vehicles involved included a Toyota Hilux, Toyota Vios, Honda CR-V, Honda Jazz, and Proton Persona.

Local Malay-language newspaper Guang Ming Daily, quoting Deputy Superintendent Azmi Ali, deputy chief of the Kuala Pilah District Police, reported that preliminary police investigation found that the Toyota Hilux pickup, driving in the far right lane, lost control and struck the right-side guardrail before skidding sideways across the right lane of the highway.

He said that at the same time, a Toyota Vios sedan following behind braked suddenly to avoid the Hilux but was hit from behind by the Honda City police car.

"Another three vehicles could not avoid in time and crashed into the cars in front in succession."

Azmi said the accident did not cause any serious injuries, only resulting in varying degrees of damage to the involved vehicles.
