Astro's music roadshow program 'Music with You 2' makes a strong return this season with "veterans" Cai Enyu and Xu Kai continuing to anchor the show. They join hands with the new generation of singers like Li Peiling, Joyce Chu, Steady Gang, Liu Hanjie, Liang Yuling, and Wilson Huang, performing Malaysian original music in live format using campuses and streets as stages, allowing the audience to experience the charm of local music up close. When asked for advice for new joining singers, Cai Enyu and Xu Kai unanimously stated: “The most important thing is to let loose and play!”
The program was recorded on the 29th at Taylor’s University, where the artists participated in a media joint interview before filming. Cai Enyu expressed that she has more leadership in the program this time, hoping to lead new-generation singers or first-timers to deeply understand the essence behind the show. “This program is not just about busking, not just about singing, we want to show that Malaysian singers can not only sing, but also create.”
She revealed that during the research process for the show, she was surprised to find that many well-known songs were actually created by familiar teachers or friends. “So we hope everyone can support local compositions more and not always think that 'the moon abroad is rounder'.” Xu Kai shared similar sentiments, admitting that he only realized through the show that many familiar songs were created by Malaysian composers. “We hope this program can break into the international scene in the future, allowing more people to hear the Malaysian sounds and know our singers and works.”
Recently participating in Chinese music program 'Asia New Voice,' Cai Enyu also revealed that the episode she participated in is expected to broadcast at the end of June. Regarding the competition content, she humorously said, “I can’t reveal too much now, or I’ll get in trouble! Please look forward to my performance.”
Joyce Chu, who has recently focused her career in China and held her first solo concert back in Malaysia in early May, laughingly said when asked if she plans to "return" for more focus: “I’ll go wherever there’s work. I’m currently settled in Guangzhou and will fly back and forth.”
Similarly residing in Changsha, China, Li Peiling also stated she will continue to develop in both China and Malaysia. She revealed she initially participated in 'Music with You 2' with a working mindset but later found it was not only about street performances, it also provided opportunities to share her thoughts on music and life, making it a rewarding experience.
Formed by Zhu Haoren, Aya, and Tomato, Steady Gang remarked that since releasing 'Zhou Xing Chi,' the team's performances were mainly sing-and-dance based, but in 'Music with You 2,' they tried a Live Band format for emotional songs. “This time we have the chance to perform many excellent Malaysian original songs, which is a brand-new experience and a practice in live performance.” Liu Hanjie, skilled in singing and songwriting, expressed pride in local creations, “Being able to re-arrange classic songs from predecessors, giving them new life, and introducing them to the post-2000 generation is something I’ve always wanted to do.”
Debuting last year in 'Chuang Asia' as a member of limited-time girl group Gen1es, Liang Yuling also participated in a local program performance for the first time. She admitted feeling nervous when first getting in touch with the Malaysian music scene, “I am more of an introverted person, but all the seniors are very kind and warm, collaborating with them is my honor.” She revealed that Gen1es has a 2-year contract remaining but plans to shift towards personal development starting the end of this year.
