(Pahang, 20th) Pahang State DAP Chairman Leong Cheng Yan sternly refuted the extreme remarks made by Pahang PAS Deputy Chairman Andansura, who said “let Pahang politics return to Malay control,” and criticized PAS Pahang for spreading narrow and divisive racial narratives, deliberately undermining ethnic unity in Pahang.
Leong, who is also the Deputy Speaker of the Pahang State Assembly and the state assemblyman for Mentakab, stated in a press release that since independence, Pahang has always been a state of coexistence among multiple ethnicities; the Chinese, Malays, Indians, indigenous people, and other communities have long lived together peacefully, building a harmonious society rooted in mutual respect and shared prosperity, contributing together to the social and economic development of the state.
He pointed out that PAS Pahang is maliciously spreading extreme racial rhetoric, ignoring the fact that the Pahang state government has always had active participation from all ethnic groups in policy-making, including executive councilors, city and district councilors, and new village committees. This has long been a source of pride for the people of Pahang, but unfortunately, PAS is now making reckless remarks for its own interest, at the expense of ethnic unity.
"PAS has grown even more extreme and unrepentant. Previously, the former PAS Subang chairman Zaharuddin stirred controversy over the promotion of Chinese military officers, leading to widespread criticism from all levels of society. Now, PAS Pahang’s Andansura is following the same pattern, trying to provoke division among the people of Pahang. This proves that PAS is a repeat offender when it comes to undermining unity."
Leong Cheng Yan stressed that the Democratic Action Party has always been committed to safeguarding the rights of all ethnicities, upholding multicultural harmony, and promoting coexistence and shared prosperity. Over the years, DAP has fielded candidates from all ethnic backgrounds in Pahang, and its representatives have become both state and federal lawmakers, jointly advancing the state’s construction and development.
He said that since the formation of the Pahang Unity Government in 2022, as one of the ruling parties, DAP has the authority to appoint city and district council members, including representatives from Malay, Chinese, and Indian communities. This has once again proven that the party serves all people regardless of race or religion within a framework of multicultural coexistence and shared prosperity.
In this regard, Leong Cheng Yan called on PAS Pahang to return to the right path, to reappreciate the beauty of Malaysia and Pahang’s multiculturalism, and to jointly safeguard the harmony and unity that our forebears worked hard to create. He urged them to stop repeatedly spreading extremist rhetoric that divides society.
