US Vice President Denies War With Iran: 'We Are at War With Iran's Nuclear Program'

(Washington, 23rd) US Vice President Vance stated that the US airstrikes on Iran have significantly set back its nuclear program, but he emphasized that the United States is not at war with Iran.
Vance told ABC: "I don’t want to discuss sensitive intelligence here, but what we understand is that last night we largely set back Iran’s nuclear program—maybe for many years or even longer."
He said: "I think it will take Iran many, many more years to develop nuclear weapons."
"We are not at war with Iran, we are at war with Iran’s nuclear program. I think the President (Trump) took decisive action last night to destroy that program."
On the 21st, US B-2 bombers fired large bunker-buster bombs at Iran’s main nuclear facilities. Trump then said in a national address that Iran’s nuclear facilities had been destroyed.
Vance accused Iran of not negotiating in good faith, which prompted the US to take military action.
Vance made it clear that the US does not seek regime change in Iran. He also stated that the US is "not interested in deploying ground troops."
There are divisions within US politics over involvement in the Israeli-Iranian conflict. Many Democratic lawmakers said that Trump’s actions were unconstitutional, as only the US Congress has the authority to declare war on foreign countries.
Responding to this criticism, Vance said Trump has clear authority to act to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
