As of 18:24 on the 1st, the death toll from floods on Indonesia’s Sumatra Island has risen to 604, with another 464 missing.
According to a report from Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency on the same day, Aceh Province reported 156 deaths and 181 missing; West Sumatra Province recorded 165 deaths and 114 missing; North Sumatra Province had 283 deaths and 169 missing.
Sumatra Island has recently been hit by continuous heavy rainfall, causing flooding and landslides. The floods have resulted in 2,600 injuries in the three provinces, affected 1.5 million people, and forced 570,000 people to evacuate. Large numbers of schools, bridges, other infrastructure, and residential homes have been damaged.
