(Bandar Seri Begawan, 19th) Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Pengiran Dato Shamhary led a delegation to participate in the 6th ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting (ADGMIN) and related meetings.
This event took place in Hanoi, Vietnam, from January 15 to 16, 2026.
The 6th ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting and related sessions were officially opened by Vietnam’s Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, with Vietnam’s Minister of Science and Technology Huỳnh Thành Đạt chairing the meeting, while Brunei’s Minister of Transport and Infocommunications served as the vice chair.
This year’s meeting, themed “Adaptive ASEAN: From Connectivity to Smart Connectivity,” provided a strategic platform for ASEAN digital ministers to jointly explore ways to strengthen the regional digital ecosystem, enhance digital trust, and leverage new technologies to support inclusive and sustainable development within the region.

During the meeting, the Minister of Transport and Infocommunications emphasized that connectivity has long been the strategic foundation for ASEAN, but now the region needs to move towards “smart connectivity.” This means enhancing digital linkages through data, analytics, and intelligent systems to support wiser decision-making, more efficient public services, and stronger regional coordination.
The Minister also pointed out that this direction aligns with ASEAN’s shared priorities, including the “ASEAN Digital Masterplan,” the “ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement,” and the promotion of digital public infrastructure as the foundation for digital growth and trust.
This meeting also saw the official launch of the “ASEAN Digital Masterplan 2030” (ADM 2030), which sets the strategic direction for ASEAN and will guide the region’s collective efforts in advancing digital transformation over the next five years.

ADM 2030 presents an ambitious vision, aiming to build ASEAN into an inclusive, trusted, and innovative digital community, empowering individuals and businesses to thrive in the global digital economy.
ADM 2030 is also committed to continually advancing digital transformation, accelerating digital processes to meet future needs, and strengthening sustainable digital transformation through coordinated policy frameworks, technological cooperation, and capacity-building initiatives.
The meeting also approved 17 ASEAN digital projects to be implemented by 2026. Projects coordinated by Brunei include: the ASEAN Artificial Intelligence Skills Development Framework; ASEAN Digital Trade Infrastructure (Phase Two); ASEAN Cybersecurity Cooperation Roadmap; and the ASEAN Digital Awards 2027.
The 6th ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting (ADGMIN) also included engagements with ASEAN’s dialogue and development partners—namely China, Japan, South Korea, India, and the United States—as well as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), aiming to strengthen cooperation and partnerships to advance ASEAN’s regional and global digital priorities.

At the 2026 ASEAN Digital Awards ceremony, Brunei’s WilKGames won the Silver Award in the Digital Content category for its digital product “Tikus Tales.”
“Tikus Tales” is a 3D platformer developed by an independent Bruneian game studio, combining Southeast Asian elements with global appeal.
This achievement reflects the growing capabilities and creativity of Bruneian digital content developers, as well as their increasing recognition at the regional level.
Prior to the 6th ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting and related events, senior officials from ASEAN member states gathered at the 6th ASEAN Digital Senior Officials’ Meeting (ADGSOM) and related meetings, held from January 12 to 14, 2026.
Brunei was represented by Deputy Permanent Secretary (Infocommunications), Haji Hairul Mohd Daud, from the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC), who also serves as Head of Brunei’s ADGSOM.
The Chief Executive of the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI), Jailani, as well as other senior officials from MTIC and AITI, also attended the meetings.
