(Miri, 20th) Organized by the Sarawak State Library, the 'Sarawakiana Festival 2025' will be grandly held at the Miri Sarawak Library from October 23 to 25 for three days. Themed 'Heritage of Knowledge, Culture and Belief,' it aims to showcase the rich cultural heritage and traditional wisdom of Sarawak’s diverse ethnic groups.
The opening ceremony will take place on the morning of the 23rd at Pullman Hotel Miri and will be officiated by Datuk Dennis Ngau, State Assemblyman for Telang Usan, Sarawak.
The organizers stated that this year’s carnival focuses on the cultural inheritance and roots of belief within Sarawakian society. Through a series of activities, the public will gain a deeper understanding of how traditional knowledge, cultural values, and belief systems shape Sarawak's identity and will encourage the younger generation to continue traditional skills and the cultural spirit.
The event is rich and colorful, including cultural performances, demonstrations of traditional cuisine and games, a traditional costume contest, folk exhibitions, interactive workshops, and an ethnic product bazaar, offering both educational and entertainment value. The organizers hope that this platform will strengthen inter-ethnic communication and understanding, while also promoting the development of the state’s creative and cultural tourism industries.
Highlights during the carnival include the Sarawakiana Forum (Pullman Hotel), Sarawakiana lectures, cultural exhibition stalls, a sustainable art workshop (Buriye handicraft and gold thread embroidery), visual art stalls, folk tale exhibition area, traditional cuisine exhibition area, folk game experience area (Dolok Marek), stage drama performances, Bermukun competition, traditional cooking competitions, Kebaya charm contest, various community group stalls, and a traditional sports area.
It is worth mentioning that this year, a special delegation from Brunei has been invited to participate and will present a featured stage drama, symbolizing the spirit of regional cultural cooperation and promoting mutual exchange and learning between Brunei and Sarawak in the fields of arts and culture.
Admission to the event is free. Opening hours are from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM. The public is encouraged to actively participate and experience the unique charm and spirit of unity of Sarawak’s multicultural heritage together.
