((Miri, 11th) As Minister Coordinating the Miri Division Disaster Management Committee, Minister for Transport Sarawak cum ADUN Senadin, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, appeals for participation in the Miri Community Gotong Royong Cleaning Up initiative to clear rubbish, garbage, debris etc arising from the recent flood in several areas in Miri.

He said, a special task force, led by the Miri Division Disaster Management Committee and coordinated by the Miri City Council, has conducted extensive assessments to map out the affected zones. A total of 11 areas have been identified, with cleanup activities already carried out at Sungai Adong and Pujut Tanjung Batu.

He stated that the Task Force was headed by the Miri Residen Office and coordinated by Miri City Council.

“We appeal to various corporate organisations, NGOs and especially residents in those affected areas to take part in the Gotong Royong.”

Dato Sri Lee Kim Shim expressed his gratitude towards corporate organizations and volunteers who have stepped forward to assist in this essential initiative.

“We sincerely appreciate the contributions of Shin Yang Group Berhad and their dedicated teams for actively participating in the cleanup efforts at Sungai Adong, Pujut Tanjung Batu, and Desa Senadin today under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts. They provided three teleloggers, which are highly efficient in clearing rubbish. Each telelogger is paired with two to three dump trucks and a team of workers to manage smaller waste collection. This coordinated approach allows them to mobilize resources efficiently across three different sites simultaneously,” said Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin.

He added that other corporate entities, such as Naim Cendera Holdings Berhad and Miri Housing and some voluntary organizations have also indicated their team will participate.

“Based on our assessments, the volume of garbage, rubbish and waste materials are huge. Our target is to clean up Miri within one week, in collaboration with the Miri City Council, so that residents in the affected areas can resume their normal lives as soon as possible. It is imperative that all these garbage, waste materials are properly disposed of, not only they are unsightly and eye sores, but also posed public health hazards,” he added.

Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin was unable to attend today’s Gotong Royong programme due to official duties in Kuching, where he is preparing for the historic signing ceremony of the sale and purchase agreement of MASwings tomorrow.
