Stephen Chow’s ‘Kung Fu Soccer’ to Premiere Across Malaysia on August 13; Global Distribution Rights Acquired by Encore Films

Internationally renowned film distribution company Encore Films has exclusively acquired the global distribution rights (outside of China) for Stephen Chow’s new film, ‘Kung Fu Soccer,’ allowing movie fans worldwide the chance to once again experience the unique comedic charm of “Master Chow” on the big screen.

As one of the most influential figures in Chinese-language cinema, Stephen Chow has produced countless classics with works such as ‘Kung Fu Hustle,’ ‘Shaolin Soccer,’ ‘CJ7,’ and ‘The Mermaid.’ ‘Kung Fu Hustle’ grossed over $100 million worldwide, making it one of the most iconic Asian action comedies of the 21st century. ‘Shaolin Soccer’ fused football, martial arts, and comedy, becoming a cult classic among moviegoers.

Encore Films Managing Director Joyce Lee said that Stephen Chow is one of the rare filmmakers who can transcend cultural and geographical boundaries to bring joy to audiences around the world. She expressed her honor in participating in the distribution of ‘Kung Fu Soccer.’ She also pointed out that while kung fu movies are not uncommon, combining Chinese martial arts with the world’s most beloved sport and creating a highly imaginative story is a unique charm found only in Stephen Chow’s works.

In recent years, Encore Films has actively expanded its international distribution footprint, having helped bring numerous Asian films to the global market—including the box-office hit animated film ‘Ne Zha 2.’ ‘Kung Fu Soccer’ will be one of the company’s major strategic releases worldwide. For mainland China, distribution will be managed by Maoyan Entertainment, while release information for other regions will be announced in the near future.
