Brunei Chinese Calligraphy & Painting Cultural Association: Chinese Ink Fragrance Enriches Campus

(Bandar Seri Begawan, 17th) On the occasion of World Book Day, the Brunei Chinese Calligraphy & Painting Cultural Association, at the invitation of Brunei Government Secondary School Sekolah Menengah Sultan Hassan Temburong, successfully held a Chinese Calligraphy Cultural Workshop under the leadership of President Yang Zhensheng and Vice President Bao Pingsheng.
This event was launched with the full support of the school principal Helmy bin Hj Abdul Rahman and the event coordinator, Vice Principal Vivian Leong Hui Vun. Nearly 600 teachers and students enthusiastically participated. Ten students stood out for their excellent performance and received calligraphy awards, infusing the campus with a strong atmosphere of cultural exchange.  
1. Significance of the Event
This workshop marks a key step in the Association's promotion of calligraphy and painting arts and exemplifies Sekolah Menengah Sultan Hassan Temburong's response to World Book Day and its practice of a multicultural education philosophy. Six hundred experiences and ten honors together wrote a vivid chapter in cultural integration and educational innovation.
2. Full Support from the School, Jointly Promoting Multicultural Education
Principal Helmy bin Hj Abdul Rahman emphasized in his opening speech: "Calligraphy is a treasure of Chinese civilization. Understanding diverse cultures is essential for cultivating students' global perspectives."
Vice Principal Vivian Leong Hui Vun coordinated the event throughout, stating: "This workshop is an innovative practice in expanding the connotation of the school's cultural education. The response from teachers and students far exceeded expectations."  
3. Immersive Experience: From Theory to Practice
Cultural Enlightenment: Association committee members explained Chinese character structure, brush techniques, and the philosophy of calligraphy, analyzing the cultural connotations within 'horizontal' and 'vertical' strokes.  
Hands-on for All: Nearly 600 students of different ethnic backgrounds wielded brushes, from tracing basic strokes to trying to write their own names. The scene was filled with exclamations and laughter, with the fragrance of ink permeating the entire campus.  
4. Awarding New Talents, Encouraging Heritage, and Promoting Calligraphy
After professional evaluation, 10 students who exhibited talent and enthusiasm during the calligraphy practice stood out and were awarded certificates of honor and prizes jointly issued by the school and the Association. Principal Cikgu Helmy, Association President Yang Zhensheng and Vice President Bao Pingsheng personally presented the awards, encouraging students to continue exploring the essence of Chinese culture.  
5. Deepening Cooperation, Planting the Seeds of Culture
The President of the Brunei Chinese Calligraphy & Painting Cultural Association especially thanked the school for their support, praising Principal Helmy and Vice Principal Vivian's vision: "This event not only allowed teachers and students to appreciate the beauty of calligraphy, but also sowed seeds for cross-cultural understanding. The Association looks forward to continuing to enter campuses in the future, promoting the rooting and spread of Chinese culture in Brunei."
