Recurrence of Ear Illness Halts Concert Plans: IU Says 'Ruined Everyone's Second Half of the Year'

South Korea's 'National Singer' IU (Lee Ji-eun) celebrates her 18th debut anniversary this year, and was originally set to release her 6th full-length album in June, followed by a concert at Goyang Sports Complex Stadium in September. However, her previous illness, 'patulous eustachian tube', has recently worsened. On the 20th, she regretfully announced the postponement of the new album's release and the cancellation of the September concert.

IU posted an apology to fans on her communication platform, candidly admitting that her eagerness to work led her to push her body, which caused the illness to persist day and night, making it difficult to perform songs at her best. After medical evaluation, experts felt that doing a high-intensity, strenuous performance involving heavy sweating would be too much for her. Feeling apologetic, she said: "Not being able to keep my promise to hold the concert feels like I've ruined everyone's second half of the year. I'm very sorry." But she also reassured fans that this condition does not affect daily life, stating she will focus on treatment, and promised to return, at the latest, with new work and performances by early 2027.

Her agency, 'EDAM Entertainment,' then confirmed that, with her health as top priority, they had carefully discussed and decided to adjust future plans, and will fully support her recovery. IU had already disclosed in 2022 that her left ear was affected by patulous eustachian tube, and now that the condition has relapsed, many fans are feeling heartbroken and disappointed.#
