(Manila, 13th)—Philippine President Marcos respects the freedom of speech of the people and supports all anti-corruption movements.
Presidential spokesperson Castro stated at a press conference on Saturday: “No matter how the people feel at this moment, the President will respect it.”
This response comes in light of a large-scale protest that is about to take place. The event, called the “Trillion-Peso March,” aims to denounce corruption scandals in flood control projects and is initiated by the National Transformation Council of Church Leaders, which is calling on participants to wear white to symbolize unity and hope.
Castro said that Marcos believes expressing public grievances is essentially an “act against corruption,” but she also reminded everyone and hoped that the protest would not be exploited by those with ulterior motives attempting to destabilize the administration.
In answer to public concern, Marcos has established an independent Infrastructure Commission (ICI) dedicated to investigating malpractice in flood control and other public works projects. The commission will prioritize reviewing flood control projects carried out in the past ten years to clarify whether any violations or corruption were involved.
