SARATOK，17 July: Early exposure, starting from the primary school level, can spark children’s interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.
Krian Assemblyman, Friday Belik, said that the Community STEM Promotion Programme organised by the Main Committee of the STEM Initiative of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sarawak Branch at rural schools was highly relevant.
“I am truly honoured to welcome the presence of UiTM representatives, especially the lecturers and their students, in organising this programme in the Krian constituency.
“Such exposure is significant to ensure that children’s interest continues to grow,” he said when officiating the programme.
He said this programme aligned with the Sarawak Government’s aspiration to champion STEM through the free tertiary education given to all Sarawakian students starting in 2026 to accelerate human capital development.
“As such, I fully support programmes like this to be continued in the future for the sake of the rural children’s future,” he added.
Friday showed his gratitude towards the team by providing logistical support, accommodation, and meals to the entire UiTM delegation involved.
The self-transformation talk and STEM expo at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Nanga Grenjang were delivered by Morgan Jampi Jepon, alongside STEM demonstrations by UiTM lecturers and students.
An estimated 300 participants from 16 schools around the Saratok District took part.
Among the main highlights of the programme include motivational talks entitled ‘Concerned Parents, Realising Student Success’, demonstrations of engineering equipment, microscopes, robotics and electrical devices.
The organisers intend to introduce STEM fields from a young age while also raising parents’ awareness of their roles in their children’s successes.
