(Kuching, 24th) Despite being in the progressive stage, Sarawak's development agenda always emphasizes the importance of environmental sustainability.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari stated that the importance of protecting the environment not only benefits its sustainable development but is also a catalyst for tourism development.

“When it comes to the environment, it is closely related to tourism. We need to protect our environment. Currently, we have over five million hectares of urban areas. However, besides national parks and nature reserves, we still need to consider the protection and conservation of forest areas.”

He further elaborated that the Sarawak government's efforts to emphasize environmental sustainability are part of the agenda to protect cultural heritage, while also preparing for future generations.

Moreover, he stated that to ensure the continued sustainable development of Sarawak's environment, the provincial government is focusing on developing sustainable renewable energy, including hydrogen, solar, and hydropower.
