On the 9th, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres released a video message to extend Lunar New Year greetings to the Chinese people and global Chinese communities, offering blessings for the Bingwu Year of the Horse.
Guterres began his video with the Chinese phrase “Happy Spring Festival” and sent his wishes: “May the spirit of the galloping horse bring you health, happiness, and prosperity.”
He noted that the Year of the Horse is approaching. The horse symbolizes energy, success, and advancing courageously. In the face of today’s world—confronted with conflict, inequality, and climate crisis—human society is in urgent need of these qualities. Only by working together can we build a safer and more inclusive future.
Guterres expressed gratitude to China and the Chinese people for their strong support of the United Nations, multilateralism, and global cooperation, and called on people to continue to uphold the commitment to peace, dignity, and sustainable development for all. He wished everyone health, happiness, and prosperity in the Year of the Horse.
Since taking office as Secretary-General of the United Nations in January 2017, Guterres has released a video message every year to extend Lunar New Year greetings.
