(Hanoi, 25th) During his trip to China to attend the 16th Annual Meeting of the New Champions of the World Economic Forum in Tianjin and his working visit to China, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Professor Tetsuya Watanabe, President of the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), on June 25.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that ERIA continue to strengthen close collaboration with various government bodies and research institutions in Vietnam, promoting research and policy consultation work. He expressed hope that ERIA could join hands with Vietnam in exploring new drivers of economic growth, enhancing productivity, quality, and competitiveness, especially in key areas such as digital transformation, green development, and the circular economy, and thus make positive contributions to Vietnam’s goals of rapid, sustainable development and achieving double-digit economic growth.
Pham Minh Chinh also expressed hope that ERIA would closely cooperate with Vietnam in the future to jointly prepare for the ASEAN Future Forum 2025 (AFF 2025) and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in 2027, enhancing collaboration in new concepts, new connotations, and new initiatives.
Professor Tetsuya Watanabe responded by stating that ERIA would continue its long-term close cooperation with various ministries and research institutions in Vietnam, actively providing policy recommendations and innovative ideas to strongly support Vietnam’s national development goals.
He also emphasized his hope that Vietnam would continue to play a leading role within ASEAN, and he pledged to support several regional cooperation initiatives promoted by Vietnam, including the ASEAN Future Forum.
During the talks, Professor Watanabe also invited Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to attend the annual high-level policy forum organized by ERIA to be held in Jakarta, Indonesia.
As a leading think tank in East Asia, ERIA has maintained good cooperation with numerous Vietnamese institutions in recent years, with particularly significant achievements in research and policy exchanges with the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, the Central Commission for Policy and Strategy, the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, and others.
