The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will collaborate with the police to investigate the videos circulating on social media involving candidates from the People's Justice Party (PKR) in Perlis and Perak.

Communications Minister and party's information chief Fahmi stated after attending a Hari Raya dinner organized by the party's Federal Territories division that it involved threatening and aggressive content on Facebook.

“I have not fully understood the situation with MCMC yet, but there are two issues: one is the video accusing a candidate of displaying a firearm. The candidate (from Perak) denies this matter and has lodged a police report.”

“MCMC will assist in the investigation because the widely circulated video has already spread on several social media platforms.”

“The second is a Facebook post involving the misuse of the internet to publish offensive content, which is a ridiculous accusation against a candidate from Perlis.”

Fahmi, who is also the Member of Parliament for Lembah Pantai, pointed out that he will discuss with MCMC regarding the reports on these events.

“MCMC will play the role of technical analysis to identify the accounts that spread the content initially.”
