The 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards in Korea will announce its winners on May 8, with the nomination list released on the 13th. The competition for Best Actor in the TV category is particularly fierce: Ryu Seung-ryong from “Chief Kim’s Dream Life,” Hyun Bin from “Made in Korea,” Lee Junho from “Typhoon Trading Company,” Ji Sung from “Judge Lee Han-young,” and Park Jin-young, acclaimed for “Unknown Seoul,” have all been nominated, promising an intense battle. Son Ye-jin, meanwhile, has been nominated for Best Actress in the Film category for the sixth time with “Killer’s Initiation,” putting her in contention to win the Best Actress trophy for a second time, and raising hopes of being on stage again with Hyun Bin, potentially breaking their record as a winning couple after the Blue Dragon Awards.

“Unknown Seoul,” starring Park Bo-young and Park Jin-young, has been well-received by viewers and earned a Best Drama nomination, with both leads also nominated for Best Actor and Actress. Park Bo-young faces strong competition from Kim Go-eun and Park Ji-hyun from “You and Everything Else,” Shin Hye-sun from “Sarah’s Real Life,” and YoonA from “The Tyrant’s Chef” for Best Actress.

Son Ye-jin previously won Best Actress at the Baeksang Awards with “The Last Princess,” and this time she’s nominated again for “Killer’s Initiation,” going up against Kim Ah-jung from “Peacock Dance,” Moon Ga-young from “After Us,” Lee Hye-young from “Holy Mother Killer,” and Han Ye-ri from “Spring Night.” After their historic win as the first married couple at last year’s Blue Dragon Awards, Son Ye-jin and Hyun Bin—who previously took home the Popularity Award together for “Crash Landing on You” before their marriage—now have another chance of being onstage as a couple at the Baeksang Awards, exciting fans everywhere.

The Best Actor in film nominees are: Lee Byung-hun from “Renegade Initiation,” Ryu Hae-jin from “King’s Decree,” Park Jung-min from “Ugly as Hell,” Koo Kyo-hwan from “After Us,” and Hong Kyung from “The News of Ominous Arrival.” “King’s Decree” is especially noteworthy, taking second place in Korean box office history with 16.39 million viewers, earning a nomination for Best Picture. Besides Ryu Hae-jin’s Best Actor nod, Yoo Ji-tae and Jeon Mi-do are nominated for Best Supporting Actor/Actress, and “King Danjong” Park Ji-hoon is up for Best New Actor, making a total of 7 nominations—the most for any film.
