On the 14th, U.S. President Trump told the media that he had been informed that the "killing has stopped" in Iran, and that the U.S. would "wait and see and observe the development of the situation."

He said at the White House that the U.S. had obtained information from "very important sources" that "the killing has stopped," adding, "I hope that's true."

When asked by reporters whether the U.S. had ruled out the possibility of military intervention in Iran, Trump said: "We will wait and see and observe the development of the situation."

Hopes for Military Strikes on Iran to Be Swift and Decisive

On the 14th, NBC News cited sources as reporting that President Trump told his national security team he hoped any military action against Iran would be a "swift, decisive strike" rather than a drawn-out conflict lasting weeks or months.

The report quoted sources as saying: "If Trump decides to take action, he wants it to be a decisive action."

The report noted that Trump was inclined towards military intervention in Iran and made clear to his national security team on the 13th what objectives any military action against Iran should achieve. The "U.S. Department of Defense has thus formulated an action plan," which was to be submitted to Trump on the 14th.

The U.S. Should Choose Diplomacy Over War

On the 14th, Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi told Fox News in a video interview that the Trump administration should not repeat the mistake of bombing Iranian nuclear facilities in June last year. He said Iran had made it clear it was willing to negotiate, and that the U.S. should choose diplomacy over war.

He was asked whether he had any message for U.S. President Trump, and said: "My message is—do not repeat the mistake of (last) June... You destroyed facilities and machinery at the time, but (our) technology and determination cannot be bombed away."

He pointed out that Iran has shown willingness to negotiate many times over the past 20 years, "but every time, the U.S. withdrew from talks and cut off diplomacy, choosing war instead."

Iranian Government Fully Controls a Now-Calm Situation

Regarding the domestic situation in Iran, Araghchi said that Iran is "now calm" and the government has "full control" over the situation.

He pointed out that "terrorists" had opened fire at police and security personnel at protest sites, and had used terrorist tactics similar to those employed by the extremist group ISIL, with the aim of increasing the number of deaths and thus dragging the U.S. into the conflict.

Main Ringleaders of Riots Arrested

On the 14th, Iran's intelligence department released a statement saying it had arrested the main ringleaders of the recent unrest, and had also seized a large quantity of electronic equipment that could be used for sabotage.

According to a report by the Iranian news agency on the 14th citing this statement, these individuals carried out acts of sabotage and attacks at seven locations in Tehran. Iran's intelligence department seized a large number of illegally imported electronic devices, including base station signal boosters, 5G modems, and next-generation mobile phones. These items were reportedly intended to be distributed to areas where the recent unrest occurred.
