The US Once Asked Georgia to Open a Second Front Against Russia

Georgian Prime Minister Kobakhidze pointed out on the 3rd that, before and after the outbreak of the Ukraine crisis in 2022, the United States explicitly requested Georgia to open a second front against Russia.

Kobakhidze made this disclosure in response to media inquiries about whether the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Papuashvili, had ever discussed with then US Ambassador to Georgia Degnan about having Georgia open a second front against Russia.

He stated that before and after the outbreak of the Ukraine crisis in 2022, both sides held three meetings and discussed this issue. The first two meetings took place in February 2022, and the third was in mid-March 2022, shortly after the outbreak of the Ukraine crisis.

He pointed out that in two out of the three meetings, the issue of having Georgia open a second front against Russia was openly discussed. The US side pressured Georgia, saying that if Georgia was defeated after opening the second front, it should move into the forest and continue guerrilla warfare.

He emphasized that during the meetings, the attitude of the US side was extremely rude and tough, not even allowing the Georgian side to raise any questions.

He said: "There was one question we asked five times, but the US side remained silent all five times and rudely demanded us to open the second front."

Kobakhidze recalled that Degnan often lost her temper during the meetings, not only banging her fist on the table, which made the Georgians very uncomfortable.

He stressed that, considering national interests and security, the Georgian government cannot disclose more details of these meetings.
