US President Trump said in an interview with Fox News Channel reporters on the 22nd that there is currently no timeline for ending the conflict with Iran, nor is there any need to rush.
He said: "Some say I am eager to end this conflict just for the midterm elections, but that is absolutely not the case."
He pointed out that previous reports about a 3-to-5-day window to extend the ceasefire were not true, and there is no time pressure regarding the ceasefire.
Regarding the incident where the Iranian military fired upon and seized passing ships in the Strait of Hormuz, Trump stated: "Those were not American ships."
He noted that the situation will be closely monitored.
Earlier that day, the US news website Axios reported that Trump was willing to extend the ceasefire for another 3 to 5 days to "let the Iranian side sort things out," but the ceasefire would not be extended indefinitely.
