(MIRI, 25th) The Minister for National Unity, Dato' Sri Aaron Ago Dagang, stated that Malaysia's multiculturalism is not a weakness but the nation's most valuable asset. The Gawai Dayak festival is not merely a celebration of rice harvest but an important festival reflecting gratitude, unity, and community spirit.

He said the Gawai festival embodies the values cherished by the Dayak community, including the Iban, Bidayuh, and other indigenous peoples, serving as a reminder to Malaysians that "language, culture, and tradition" differences are the foundation of the nation's strength.

As Aaron Ago Dagang was unable to attend the 19th Miri Division Gawai Dayak Celebration Banquet, his speech was read by the Sarawak Deputy Minister for Local Government, Dato' Penguang Manggil.

This celebration was grandly held last night at the Meritz Hotel in Miri, attracting guests from various ethnic groups to gather and celebrate the festival together.

Alan emphasized that "unity in diversity" is the cornerstone of the nation. As a multiracial society, Malaysia must maintain harmony through mutual tolerance, learning, and cooperation, with Sarawak, particularly Miri, as a model of such diverse harmony.

"The unity we possess does not stem from homogeneity but from the willingness to tolerate differences, learn from each other, and move forward together."

He also pointed out that unity cannot be enforced but needs to be nurtured and fostered from the heart, like religion and faith. He emphasized that the government is committed to promoting inclusivity and cross-ethnic understanding through initiatives and policies.

Alan also specifically mentioned that community leaders play a core role in promoting national unity. He said that leaders of various ethnic groups are bridges between cultures, promoting understanding, respect, and harmonious coexistence. Especially the leaders of indigenous communities bear the dual mission of preserving cultural identity and advancing national vision.

"You are models, mentors, and advocates for social harmony. The government will continue to work with local leaders to respond to community needs, ensuring fairness, justice, and opportunities are realized."

He called on people across the nation, especially community leaders, to work together to build a more united, just, and prosperous Malaysia through dialogue, cooperation, and inclusivity.

He announced the official opening of the 19th Miri Division Gawai Dayak Celebration and wished all participants a joyful festival, sharing peace and prosperity.
