On the 17th, US President Trump stated that unless the US and Iran reach a long-term agreement to end the war before the 22nd, he might not extend the ceasefire with Iran, and "we may have to start dropping bombs again."
He made these remarks to the media aboard the presidential aircraft "Air Force One."
He also said that he had just received some rather good news, mainly that Iran would not possess nuclear weapons.
The ceasefire between the US and Iran is set to expire on the 22nd.
Iran Does Not Accept Temporary Ceasefire
On the 17th, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Khatibzadeh stated that Iran does not accept a temporary ceasefire and is also demanding a complete end to all conflicts in the region.
During the fifth Antalya Diplomacy Forum held in Belek, Antalya Province, Turkey, Khatibzadeh told the media that a short-term or temporary ceasefire would only perpetuate instability and would be difficult to fundamentally resolve the conflict and tensions—this is Iran's clear position.
He pointed out that any ceasefire plan must cover all conflict areas from Lebanon to the Red Sea. Iran is committed to ending the cycle of regional conflicts, and the repeated pattern of temporary calm followed by renewed conflict must be brought to an end.
