(Miri, 16th) Sarawak Pakatan Harapan and DAP Secretary Alan Ling went to the National Mosque yesterday to pay his last respects to the fifth Prime Minister, Tun Abdullah Badawi. He represented the Sarawak Pakatan Harapan and Sarawak DAP in conveying deep condolences to his family, especially former Health Minister Khairy.

He stated that as a junior in the political scene, he had a very deep impression of Tun Abdullah.

“Pak Lah was a gentle, introverted, enlightened, and inclusive leader, a gentleman rarely seen in Malaysian politics. His quiet demeanor revealed determination, and his calm nature showed wisdom. His introverted and mature character led him step by step to the pinnacle of politics, eventually becoming the nation's fifth Prime Minister.”

He remarked that while serving as Prime Minister, Pak Lah led UMNO and Barisan Nasional through periods of great triumph and deep decline.

“In the 2004 general elections, he led Barisan Nasional to win nearly 90% of parliamentary seats, setting a brilliant record of political heights. However, in 2008, as the national political landscape changed dramatically, Barisan Nasional lost its two-thirds majority in Parliament and control over five states. Faced with internal party pressure, he did not struggle or counterattack, but instead chose to step down gracefully with the demeanor of a political gentleman, passing on power selflessly and without resentment.”

He also specifically mentioned that during his term as Foreign Minister, Pak Lah's moderate and balanced stance allowed the international community to better recognize and understand Malaysia's diverse values, establishing our nation’s image of moderation on the international stage.

“Today, Pak Lah can finally rest in peace. We remember not just a Prime Minister, but a true politician who was people-centric. His demeanor, character, and contributions will remain in our hearts.”

He concluded by expressing sincere gratitude for Tun Abdullah's significant contributions to the nation and the political legacy he left for Malaysia, and he wished strength for his family in overcoming their grief.
