In response to facing tariffs as high as 245%, Chinese officials emphasized that if the United States continues to play tariff number games, China will not pay attention.
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on their official website on the 17th: "As for where the 245% figure comes from, you should ask the US side." The Ministry stressed that the repeated imposition of excessively high tariffs by the US on China has turned into a number game, which is economically meaningless, and only further exposes the US's practice of weaponizing and instrumentalizing tariffs to engage in bullying and coercion.
The Ministry also stated: "There are no winners in a tariff war or trade war. China is reluctant to fight but is not afraid to fight. If the American side continues to play tariff number games, China will not pay attention. If the US insists on continuing to harm China's interests substantially, China will firmly counteract and be prepared to fight to the end."
The White House earlier stated that China, due to its retaliatory measures, would face tariffs as high as 245%.
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce on the evening of the 16th on their official website mentioned that China has noticed that tariffs on certain Chinese exports to the US have cumulatively reached 245% due to various reasons. This fully exposes the US's irrational extent of weaponizing tariffs.
The Ministry of Commerce also said: "Regarding the meaningless tariff number games by the US, China will not pay attention. But if the US insists on continuing to harm China's interests substantially, China will firmly counteract and be prepared to fight to the end."
