On the 3rd, China’s Ministry of Commerce announced that, starting from the 4th, anti-dumping duties of up to 78.2% will be imposed on certain optical fiber products imported from the United States. Affected companies include Corning, Draka Communications, and OFS Fitel.

On March 4, 2025, at the request of Yangtze Optical Fibre and Cable Joint Stock Limited Company, the Ministry of Commerce launched an investigation into possible circumvention of anti-dumping measures on U.S.-origin non-dispersion-shifted single-mode optical fiber by related cut-off wavelength-shifted single-mode optical fiber imported from the U.S. The ruling of the investigation was announced on the 2nd, confirming the decision to impose anti-dumping duties.

According to the ruling, Corning will be subject to an anti-dumping duty rate of 37.9%, OFS Fitel 33.3%, and Draka Communications as high as 78.2%. Other U.S. exporters are also subject to the maximum rate of 78.2%. Upon the news, industry insiders generally believe this will severely impact the competitiveness of American companies in the Chinese market.

Foreign media analysts interpret this move as a strong response by China to U.S. industrial policies and tariff frictions.
