(Bandar Seri Begawan, 5th) The Brunei Chinese Charity Association has announced significant progress regarding the much-anticipated crematorium construction project. With official approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the site for the crematorium has been designated at a location adjacent to the Chinese cemetery at Dong Gu Ling in Belait District, marking a crucial step toward the construction of the first crematorium.
The crematorium construction plan, since its proposal, has strictly adhered to guidelines set by relevant Brunei government departments. Multiple preliminary building plans had been submitted and were revised according to suggestions from technical and environmental departments, and have finally received approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs. The permit clearly states that the approved drawings must not be changed or modified, ensuring that the project complies with national standards and community needs. Currently, land leveling at the project site has been successfully completed, laying a solid foundation for subsequent construction work.
As of the end of last month, total public donations had reached BND730,036.40, reflecting the high level of public attention and support for the construction of the crematorium. The fundraising campaign is still ongoing to help ensure the project’s successful completion. The total project budget is estimated to be between BND1.5 million and BND2 million, which includes the acquisition of two state-of-the-art cremation units.
To ensure the advancement and reliability of the crematorium facilities, the association is sourcing two brand-new cremation units from overseas suppliers, and is actively evaluating mature models already in operation in neighboring countries. This purchase has not been finalized yet, as a comprehensive evaluation based on technical performance, operating costs, and long-term maintenance is required before a final decision is made.
The association also stated that the construction of the crematorium will fill the gap in related facilities in Brunei, providing the public with more comprehensive funeral services. They have pledged to strictly adhere to the government-approved designs and guidelines, to promote high-quality project completion, and to keep the public informed of future developments at appropriate times.
The Brunei Chinese Charity Association is currently actively preparing for the construction of the crematorium.
