No Longer Accepting Chinese Investment? Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister: Never Said That

On the 16th, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, Sun Chanthol, stated that Cambodia has never said it would no longer accept investment from China. Cambodia encourages more Chinese companies to invest in Cambodia. For a long time, China has provided important support for Cambodia's socio-economic development, especially in fields such as infrastructure. The Cambodian government and people are deeply grateful for this support.

Some foreign media recently quoted Sun Chanthol as saying that Cambodia is seeking to reduce its dependence on China amid the US-China trade war, especially regarding Chinese investment and sources of raw materials. Sun Chanthol made the above remarks in an exclusive interview with China News Service on the 16th.

"For our 'ironclad friends' from China, it is very important to note: you are welcome to invest in Cambodia, and we will do everything we can to support investment from China." Sun Chanthol said that this year he will visit China for roadshow activities, communicate with Chinese companies, and encourage them to increase investment in Cambodia.

Regarding the recent arrest and deportation of Chen Zhi and other suspects involved in online fraud crimes to China by Cambodian authorities, Sun Chanthol stated that this is only the first step. He pointed out that the Cambodian government has a very firm and resolute attitude towards combating online fraud. Online fraud has damaged Cambodia's reputation and national image, and the Cambodian government will make every effort to eliminate this issue and create a favorable environment to attract more investment into the country.
