The new year song “New Year Lou Ah Lou”, co-sung by Fuying Wang Fuying, Sam Shen Zhanning, Bell Fu Xiya, Che Zhili, and Ribbon Huang Ruoxi, centers around the uniquely Malaysian-Chinese Spring Festival tradition of “lou sang”, and conveys the core message that “health is wealth.”
Producer Bell Fu Xiya revealed during the press conference that the song, from creation to MV filming, was completed in just two weeks. Despite the intense pace, the process went quite smoothly. “The pressure was really high, but we finished it in the end. It turns out it was possible.” The group hopes this festive “lou sang song” will bring everyone joy and become the go-to background music during lou sang celebrations.
Fuying also said frankly that this was the fastest he’s ever completed a song. With experience in songwriting and filming, he is well aware that post-production usually takes the most time and lamented, “Finishing everything in two weeks is really impressive; we have to thank the whole team.” He praised the song’s theme, joking that he hopes everyone uses this song as the background music when posting about lou sang on social media.
The middle of the song features a special inclusion of the Malaysian classic tongue-twister “Teacher Gave Me a Pen” as a rap element. Che Zhili, who performs the rap, joked, “I’m actually a hidden rapper, singing love songs is just my side job. This time I finally get to show my other talents.” He proudly added, “People have seen me dance, sing, and cook, but probably haven’t seen me rap!” Speaking of the MV’s “lou sang gesture dance” not appearing much on screen, Che Zhili exclaimed, “All my dance scenes were cut!”
Huang Ruoxi quickly explained, “It was so you’d come out as a surprise later in the video.” Che Zhili couldn’t help but complain further, “But if I wasn’t going to be shown, why make me dance so hard? I was exhausted!” Huang Ruoxi replied helplessly, “I should be even more upset—because when your scenes got cut, mine got cut too.”
When asked about wishes for the new year, Sam admitted that what he cherishes most now is happy times. “After my father’s passing last year, I truly realized that health and happiness are never guaranteed, so I think these are most important.” Huang Ruoxi shared that, after recovering from chickenpox last year, she clearly felt weaker, so what she most wants to ‘lou’ for this new year is health. “I used to think being young meant it’s okay to sleep only 4 or 5 hours a day, but after being sick, I really understand that health is important.”
