(Bandar Seri Begawan, 4th) Zhang Xinming clinched the championship at the 2026 Brunei Veteran Men and Women Newcomer Mandopop Singing Competition.
This event was organized by Brunei Star Entertainment Production Company, comprising both the 2026 Brunei Veteran Men and Women Newcomer Mandopop Singing Competition and the 2026 Youbang Junior and Children Mandopop Singing Selection Competition. The contest took place on the 3rd of this month at the 8th floor banquet hall of Broadway Hotel, attracting a total of 32 local singers and creating a lively atmosphere.
In the 2026 Brunei Veteran Men and Women Newcomer Mandopop Singing Competition, Ji Xiangrong took the runner-up position, Zhang Weifa won third place, while Liu Anna was awarded fourth place. Zhang Xinming also took the Stage Presence Award, and the Costume Award went to Huang Min.
In the “2026 Youbang Junior and Children Mandopop Singing Selection Competition”, in the junior category, Xu Yanhan won first place, Ke Yijia was the runner-up, Lin Jincheng took third place, and Lin Yinrui finished fourth; the Stage Presence Award was also given to Xu Yanhan, while the Costume Award went to Ke Yijia.
In the children’s group, Zhang Kaining took the championship, Wen Xinyu was the runner-up, Peng Yuxuan took third place, and Xu Xiangling came in fourth; the Stage Presence Award was won by Zhang Kaining, while Xu Xiangling received the Costume Award.
It is worth mentioning that the junior group champion Xu Yanhan and runner-up Ke Yijia, as well as children’s group champion Zhang Kaining and runner-up Wen Xinyu, will represent Brunei on August 7th in Sarikei, Sarawak, to participate in the 31st Youbang Junior and Children Mandopop Singing Elite Invitational.
The event sponsors were represented by the daughters of Li Yongzhen, Cai Yongfa, Huang Hankun, Zhang Fucai, as well as Star Entertainment Production Company’s Managing Director Cai Xinzhe and his spouse, who officiated at the opening ceremony.
The judging panel included teacher Liu Guangyi from Sabah and teachers Lin Mingai and Chi Delian from Sarawak. During the ceremony, Cai Xinzhe also presented souvenirs to the sponsors and adjudicators in appreciation.
Throughout the competition, the contestants demonstrated their strengths with solid singing skills and unique stage styles, presenting a wonderful musical feast for the audience. Whether through touching vocals or meticulously designed stage acts, the performances fully showcased the talent and potential of local singers.
