(Miri, 17th) The Malaysian Red Crescent Miri Branch, through its Community Care & Protection unit and the Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD), carried out a charitable visit on the 15th of this month to assist two underprivileged families in the Lambir area of Miri. This activity was made possible with the generous support of the local Linggie longhouse.
The visit was led by Dr. Uma Devi, Chairperson of the Community Care & Protection Sub-Committee, who delivered a useful health and environmental lecture to the families, covering important topics such as the dangers of plastics, the importance of cleanliness, and healthy eating.
Moreover, representatives from the Miri City Council, Mr. Mohd Shobri and Ms. Dayang Mariamah, participated in the discussion, introducing the families to different services provided by the council and how to report community issues. Additionally, the council gifted "Say No to Plastic" stickers to encourage residents to reduce the use of disposable plastic bags and switch to eco-friendly bags.
In further support of environmental advocacy, the Miri Red Crescent distributed stainless steel food containers, donated by anonymous benefactors, to the families to encourage the reduction of single-use plastic containers. At the same time, volunteers distributed dry food, clothing, and basic hygiene products to provide practical help to the families. The organization expressed heartfelt gratitude to all charitable donors.
This charity visit is part of Miri Red Crescent's long-term social care plan, with more similar activities planned for the future to provide aid to families in need. The organization also calls on the public to actively join volunteer services or provide material donations to bring warmth and hope to underprivileged groups.
