Malaysian male duo Fuying & Sam (FS) welcomed the upcoming Chinese New Year with fans at the launch event for their 2026 New Year single 'The Happiness of Going Home' MV, also bearing witness to the Conch New Rhythms Award’s continuous effort to breathe new life into local original music.
In his speech, Wu Jianfeng, the general manager of Conch Music and Dash Music Publishing, pointed out that over the years, the Conch New Rhythms Award has nurtured internationally renowned singers such as Ah Niu (Chen Qingxiang), Fish Leong, Victor Wong (Pin Guan), and Penny Tai, serving as a major cradle for Malaysian original music. He revealed that this year’s New Year single producer, Liu Yonghui, is also an alumnus of the Conch New Rhythms Award, embodying the local music scene’s creative spirit handed down through generations, and expressed gratitude to Fuying & Sam for readily accepting the invitation to perform the Best Song Award-winning piece.
This year’s competition was conducted entirely online for the first time, successfully breaking geographical boundaries, attracting creators from all over the country. Under the New Year song theme, diverse music styles were showcased. Ultimately, He Liying won the Most Popularity Award, while 'The Happiness of Going Home' took home the Best Song Award.
The MV, premiered at the event, also shared the backstory behind the creation. The original demo carried a strong sense of homesickness, but after being rearranged and performed by FS, it transformed into a lively and heartwarming New Year song, full of longing for returning home. The duo admitted that, as alumni from Conch Forest’s Exceptional Singer Training Camp, this 'homecoming' performance was especially meaningful. The lyrics are delicate and touching, giving voice to the feelings of wanderers far from home. Talking about what makes the new year special, Sam said he misses the hotpot cooked by his family, while Fuying longs for the taste of hometown Teochew fish maw from Ayer Tawar.
