Miri Police Crack Down on Fraud Syndicate

(Miri, 12th) Miri District Police ACP Alexson Naga confirmed confirmed that the Miri District Commercial Crime Investigation Division conducted an operation at Anchor Way Enterprise Shop, Miri, Sarawak on 10 April 2025 at approximately 6.00 pm.

In this operation, 1 local man aged in his 40s and 3 women aged in their 20s to 40s were arrested and various mobile phones, gold purchase receipts, passports, copies of identity cards of different owners, clothes, watches, jewellery suspected to be fake and a Toyota Hilux car were seized. The estimated value of the seizure excluding the car is RM15,000.00.

The four suspects have been remanded for 4 days for investigation. This case is being investigated under section 420 of the Penal Code, which can lead to a prison sentence of not less than one year and not more than ten years, and whipping and a fine if convicted.

The public is advised to always be vigilant and careful when buying and selling gold, whether face-to-face or online, Buy at a gold sales premise or do an authenticity test before making any buying and selling transaction, Carry out the buying and selling transaction in a place that has CCTV and witnesses, Obtain proof of purchase such as a receipt or make an online payment transaction to obtain future purchase references, and take pictures with the delivery of goods between the seller and buyer when carrying out face-to-face gold buying and selling activities.

The public can contact the National Scam Response Center (NSRC) at 997 if you are a victim of cyber fraud (job offer scam, non-existent loan, love scam, e-commerce, phone scam and so on) if you have just made a money transfer transaction to any bank account or e-wallet of the suspect.
