Chinese actor Gao Hanyu recently revealed on a variety show that while recording a program in Cambodia, a strange series of events left him feeling utterly hopeless, to the point where he left a farewell message to his mother in his hotel: “Mom, I’m surely going to die today!”
Gao Hanyu recalled that when he participated in a dating show, the plan was originally for three people to travel together, but for some unknown reason he ended up traveling alone to Cambodia. Although his companions were missing, the travel plans proceeded as scheduled. According to the show’s arrangements, Gao Hanyu was supposed to transfer in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, to a flight to Siem Reap, where Angkor Wat is located. Unexpectedly, due to receiving incorrect information, Gao Hanyu inexplicably left the airport in Phnom Penh instead of transferring flights.
Things kept going wrong—when Gao Hanyu tried to use his phone to call for help, he found it couldn’t connect in the foreign country, and unable to communicate due to the language barrier, he felt completely isolated. At this moment, a man speaking a Chinese dialect approached and asked what was wrong. Lacking much worldly experience, Gao Hanyu believed the man when he said he was waiting for another passenger whose flight was delayed, and followed the stranger to a hotel. After arriving at the hotel, Gao Hanyu started to sense danger: the door couldn’t be locked, causing him great fear. He urgently propped a chair against the door and quickly took out his phone to record a farewell message, confessing the mistakes he’d made and telling his mother he was surely going to die and probably wouldn’t make it back, which was very moving.
Fortunately, Gao Hanyu was lucky and didn’t give up hope. In the end, he managed to contact the program staff by using the hotel’s phone, and with the help of hotel staff as translators, he was able to call a car to his destination. Even after getting in the car, Gao Hanyu remained vigilant, closely watching the map on his phone to confirm the route was correct, and finally he arrived safely at the filming site.
