The South Korean Prosecutor's Office's special investigation headquarters for emergency martial law stated on Monday that it has applied for an arrest warrant for former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun on charges of carrying out important tasks related to insurrection and abuse of power.
The special investigation headquarters of the South Korean Prosecutor's Office pointed out that Kim Yong-hyun is suspected of conspiring with President Yoon Suk-yeol to incite insurrection and attempt to undermine constitutional governance.
The prosecutors believe that insurrection is a serious crime punishable by death, and there is a risk of Kim Yong-hyun fleeing and destroying evidence, so they have requested the court to approve the arrest.
