Hong Kong theatre maestro Chung King-fai peacefully passed away on June 3 this year, at the age of 89. The 'memorial service' was held today (15th) at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, with many friends and juniors from the entertainment industry in attendance to pay their respects. Among them, the appearance of 62-year-old actor Cheung Tat-ming drew extensive media attention.
On the day, Cheung Tat-ming wore a black shirt, grey hat, and a mask, and was pushed into the venue in a wheelchair by a staff member. He maintained a solemn expression throughout and did not accept any interviews. The media noticed that he appeared even thinner and more haggard than he did in April this year, once again raising public concern over his health. However, Anthony Wong later stated that Cheung's movements were normal and that the two frequently met up for meals.
Cheung Tat-ming was diagnosed with stage 3 nasopharyngeal carcinoma in 2011. Due to chemotherapy, the level of heavy metals in his body rose to 63 times the normal amount, leading to severe complications such as nerve damage and numbness in his hands and feet. In 2016, he also endured the blow of divorcing his wife of 15 years. Nevertheless, with his optimistic nature, he continued to face life positively, exercising by hiking accompanied by friends like Chow Yun-fat. In recent years, he officially returned to showbiz and in 2020 was awarded the 'Best Supporting Actor' at the Hong Kong Film Awards for the movie "I'm Livin' It", with his acting highly recognized.
