Train and Double-Decker Bus Collide in Mexico, At Least 8 Dead and 45 Injured

The Civil Protection Department of central Mexico State reported on the 8th that a freight train collided with a double-decker bus, which had attempted to cross a level crossing, in Atlacomulco city early that morning, resulting in at least 8 deaths and 45 injuries.

The state Civil Protection Department said the accident occurred at around 8:30 a.m. in the industrial area section of the Atlacomulco-Malacateo Federal Highway. The injured have been sent to hospitals for treatment.

The Civil Protection Department stated that both directions of traffic at the accident site were subsequently closed, and rescue and investigation work is still ongoing.

Traffic accidents are frequent in Mexico, usually caused by speeding, poor vehicle conditions, or driver fatigue.
