Entering Landslide-Closed Road by Mistake, Falling Into Valley – Deceased Soon-to-be Newlyweds Laid to Rest

(Terengganu, 7th) – An MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) mistakenly entered a road section that was closed due to a landslide, lost control and fell into a valley about 200 feet deep. A pair of soon-to-be newlyweds were thrown from the vehicle and died on the spot!

According to Bernama, Hulu Terengganu Police Chief Superintendent Sharudin stated that the driver, Hasan Shazali (52), is a teacher at SK Lebir. At the time of the incident, he was carrying his 34-year-old female passenger, Suzaimah Az Aziz (a school canteen employee), departing from Kuala Terengganu and heading back to Gua Musang.

This fatal accident happened at 5:30pm on Friday (5th), at the 52km mark of the Kuala Jeneris-Sg Gawi-Aring (Bukit Kawah) road section.

Police said that the surface of this road was uneven and is a landslide-prone zone. After being closed off, it had not been reopened; the incident happened during the day and under clear weather conditions.

It is understood that both deceased had planned to hold their wedding on December 25 this year. Now their remains have already been buried on December 6, each in their own hometown.
In response to this incident of unauthorized entry to a closed road, the Public Works Department has filed a report and taken further action, including setting up warning signs and barricades, as well as publishing related landslide information on the official website to ensure similar accidents do not happen again.
