(Marudi, 29th) The telecommunications substation engine room located at Bukit TV, Marudi, caught fire on Wednesday (January 28th). The blaze was intense, resulting in the complete destruction of the engine room structure and damage to two engine units.
The Marudi Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 5:58 pm reporting that the facility located on Jalan Gudang had caught fire. The site is about 28 kilometers from the fire station.
The first fire engine arrived at the scene at 6:28 pm to find the engine room fully engulfed in flames. On-site staff had attempted to control the fire with five dry powder extinguishers and two carbon dioxide extinguishers before the firefighters arrived, but the blaze had already spread and could not be effectively extinguished.
The fire involved two engine units. The engine room structure measured approximately 10 by 15 feet and was ultimately completely destroyed, with damage assessed at 100%.
Firefighters subsequently used foam and water drawn from a nearby storage tank to battle the blaze, successfully bringing it under control at 7:02 pm, and fully extinguishing it by 8:20 pm.
No casualties were reported.
The operation was led by PBKI Erec Unyi. The firefighting team used a Triton VGT fire truck to carry out the rescue, and after confirming the scene was safe, they returned to the fire station at 9:06 pm.
The cause of the fire and whether it affected telecommunications services are still under further investigation.
