10 Still Missing in Philippine Ferry Sinking Accident

The Philippine Coast Guard issued its latest update on the 27th: as of the 26th, the ferry sinking accident in the waters off Basilan Province in southern Philippines in the early hours of the 26th has resulted in 18 deaths, 316 survivors, and 10 people are still missing.

The Philippine Coast Guard also clarified that, due to 15 registered passengers not boarding the ferry, the actual number of people on board was 344.

Initial reports had stated the ferry was carrying more than 350 people.

On the 27th, Coast Guard Commander Gavan said at a press conference that 10 people remain unaccounted for, including the ship's captain, 8 crew members, and 1 safety manager.

In addition, Transportation Secretary Lopez stated on the 27th that the operating company of the ferry had a record of 32 previous safety incidents, though Lopez did not provide further details.
