(Manila, 20th) Malacañang Palace said on Friday that, as false and misleading information continues to spread on social media, President Ferdinand Marcos is expected to respond to this issue in his fourth State of the Nation Address.

Currently, the Presidential Communications Office and the Department of Information and Communications Technology have started preparations, planning to block those State of the Nation Address contents that have been manipulated by artificial intelligence (AI) technology, in order to prevent them from spreading on social media and causing public confusion.

Presidential Press Secretary Claire Castro said in an interview: “At present, we don’t have detailed information yet, but one thing is certain: the President is very likely to mention this topic in the State of the Nation Address. He has previously made it clear, during his Independence Day speech, about the dangers of fake news to the country.”

House Secretary General Reginald Velasco revealed on Thursday that the Presidential Communications Office and the Department of Information and Communications Technology pledged to closely monitor possible AI-altered videos on social media, to prevent the distortion of President Marcos’ 2025 State of the Nation Address.

It is reported that prior to his third State of the Nation Address last year, President Marcos encountered a “deepfake” AI-generated video, which was used to mislead the public and sparked concern.

Marcos will deliver his fourth State of the Nation Address on July 28 at the House of Representatives plenary hall in Quezon City.

During the earlier 127th Philippine Independence Day celebration, President Marcos called for national unity to resist fake news, emphasizing that misinformation is a “bane to freedom” and must not be ignored.

He also expressed his disappointment in certain individuals spreading false information for personal gain, pointing out that such actions not only harm the nation’s interests, but also mislead the majority of the Filipino public.
