The National Assembly's Deputy Speaker Randrianasoloniako questioned the "legality" of the decree. That afternoon, the National Assembly convened a special session and announced that it had voted to impeach Rajoelina.
Since September 25, large-scale protests have broken out in Antananarivo and several other cities in Madagascar, protesting frequent water and power outages. On October 11, a mutiny broke out at an elite military camp south of Antananarivo, with some soldiers joining the protests and demanding Rajoelina step down. On the 12th, the unit announced it had taken over military command, while the presidential palace issued a written statement condemning the ongoing "illegal armed power seizure attempt."
