(Bintulu, 25th) – A 75-year-old Penan elder from Jalan Sungai Sekerang, Sibauh, Bintulu, was found by a rescue team yesterday afternoon after being missing for four days, and was successfully sent to the hospital for treatment.
It is understood that the missing person, Yalin Anamingu, left home around 8am on the 18th (Monday) and did not return. The family reported to the police that day, after which a search was launched.
The Bintulu Branch of the Sarawak Fire & Rescue Department received notification from the Bintulu Police District at 6:59am on the 20th (Wednesday), and dispatched personnel to the scene to carry out a joint search operation with the police and Civil Defence Force. The search area was about 120 kilometers from the branch.
On the fourth day of the operation, carried out on the 24th (Sunday), the search team was divided into Groups A, B, and C, and received assistance from 31 villagers. At 11:20am, the team conducted a more thorough search based on an odor clue at the scene. At 1:25pm, Team B successfully found the elder about 600 meters east of where his backpack had been left behind. He was weak but conscious at the time.
At 3:35pm, the rescue team successfully brought the elder back to the forward command post. At 3:40pm, he was sent to Tubau Clinic for initial treatment, and subsequently transferred to Bintulu Hospital. At 4:00pm, the forward command officially declared the operation concluded.
