KOTA SAMARAHAN: A special committee will be established to coordinate and monitor the progress and challenges faced by each Regional Development Agency (RDA) in the state.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, DBKU, and Islamic Affairs), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, stated that this initiative is part of efforts to improve the effectiveness of development implementation throughout the state, and he will personally chair the committee.

He explained that the objective is to ensure each RDA can address arising issues in a more systematic and effective manner.

“This Special Committee will involve collaboration between various regional and federal development agencies, including the Sarawak Economic Planning Unit (EPU), the Sarawak Implementation Monitoring Unit (SIMU), and several relevant ministries and departments,” he said during his recent visit to the Integrated Regional Samarahan Development Agency (IRSDA) office.
Dr Abdul Rahman also conveyed a directive from Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, urging contractors who have received a Letter of Award (LOA) to commence work within 30 days from the date of issuance.
He stressed that firm action must be taken to ensure that project progress is not disrupted and called for strong cooperation from all parties to ensure smooth implementation according to schedule.

Meanwhile, during the briefing session, IRSDA Special Administrative Officer Anuar Da’an presented the agency’s role in planning and overseeing development projects across a 2,426-square-kilometre area, covering the districts of Samarahan, Asajaya, Simunjan, Sebuyau, Gedong, and the sub-district of Sadong Jaya.

To date, Annuar said IRSDA has overseen a total of 660 development projects, comprising 458 completed projects, 50 projects under construction, 127 projects in the planning stage, and
27 projects classified as “keep in view” (KIV) or cancelled.

These projects are being implemented in collaboration with various technical agencies, including the Public Works Department, the Department of Irrigation and Drainage, the Rural Water Supply Department, the Department of Agriculture, as well as local authorities such as the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council, the Simunjan District Council, and the Gedong District Council.
