False Accusations of Rape Against 10 Men Lead to Multiple Job Losses and Breakups; UK Woman Sentenced to 4.5 Years in Prison

According to a report by Sky News on March 11, 31-year-old Stacey Sharples from the Farnworth area of Bolton, UK, pleaded guilty to 10 counts of perverting the course of justice at Bolton Crown Court on March 9.

Police stated that the false accusations occurred between 2013 and 2019, with most of the men involved being arrested and detained, and some undergoing intimate examinations.

Police added that after being falsely accused of rape, many of these men lost their jobs, broke up with their partners, were shunned by friends and family, and experienced a dramatic decline in their mental health.

However, the investigation found that the factual evidence was completely contrary to what Stacey Sharples had claimed.

Police pointed out that Sharples deliberately and persistently fabricated these accusations, fully aware of the consequences for each man involved.

Police stated, "I want to pay tribute to the strength of these (falsely accused) men. They endured experiences that most people would not want to go through, yet maintained their dignity throughout. We hope that today's outcome brings them a sense of justice served."

Police also appealed to all genuine victims of rape or sexual assault not to be deterred from seeking help because of Sharples' actions. Victims are encouraged to seek assistance from the police, charitable organizations, or support agencies.

Police emphasized that false reports harm the position of real victims seeking justice, and the police resources spent investigating Sharples' false accusations could have been used to investigate genuine sexual assault cases.
