(Miri, 10th) Sarawak Democratic Action Party Secretary Ling Sie Kien recently received complaints from the public, pointing out that multiple potholes have appeared on roads around the Senadin Commercial Centre, severely affecting traffic safety. After receiving the report, Ling Sie Kien immediately visited the site and expressed high concern over the situation.
Ling Sie Kien pointed out that the potholes on the relevant stretches are very large and vary in depth, posing a serious threat to motorcyclists.
"For car drivers, at most the car gets damaged, but for motorcyclists, if they fall into one of these potholes, it could lead to serious accidents and even endanger lives."
He stated that such road hazards not only reflect delays in maintenance but also highlight the slow response of the city council in road safety management.
He revealed that he had earlier suggested the establishment of a '24-hour emergency repair team' to the local government so that repairs can be carried out immediately after receiving public reports, preventing accidents from occurring.
"Pothole issues may seem minor, but they can cost lives at any moment. The city council cannot ignore public road safety and must take immediate action to conduct comprehensive inspections and repairs," Ling Sie Kien emphasized.
He also called on the authorities to consider setting up more accessible repair teams so that road conditions can be dealt with promptly, ensuring the safety and smooth flow of public roads and giving road users peace of mind.
