(China, 27th) — On Friday (September 26), a U.S. judge rejected the application by Chinese drone manufacturer DJI to be removed from the U.S. Department of Defense blacklist. Companies included on this list are accused of cooperating with the Chinese military.
According to Reuters, Judge Paul Friedman said in his ruling that the U.S. Department of Defense possessed substantial evidence to support its conclusion that DJI contributes to China’s defense industrial base.
DJI had called on the court to order its removal from the list, arguing that the company is neither affiliated with nor controlled by the Chinese military.
In a statement, DJI expressed disappointment with the ruling and said it is evaluating the company’s legal options.
The U.S. Department of Defense declined to comment. Earlier this month, U.S. President Trump signed an executive order to rename the Department of Defense as the Department of War. This name change must receive formal approval from the U.S. Congress.
Friedman also stated that inclusion on the list could result in the company being unable to secure certain U.S. contracts, grants, and other projects.
Last October, two years after DJI was placed on the “Chinese military companies” list by the U.S., the company sued the U.S. Department of Defense and sought removal from the blacklist.
