US Envoy to Ukraine and Russia Says Russia-Ukraine Peace Agreement Near Completion

US Special Envoy to Ukraine and Russia, Kellogg, stated on the 7th that an agreement to end the Russia-Ukraine war is "very close to being reached," with only two major unresolved issues remaining.

He said, “We are really very close to reaching an agreement.”

Kellogg, who is expected to step down in January, said at the Reagan National Defense Forum that efforts to resolve the conflict have entered “the last 10 meters,” though this stretch is always the most difficult.

He pointed out that the two main issues are the territorial question—mainly the future of the Donbas region—and the future of Zaporizhzhia, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, which is currently under Russian control.

He said, “If these two problems can be resolved, I think other issues will also be resolved smoothly. We are really very close.”

Currently, Russian forces control 19.2% of Ukraine's territory, including Crimea, which was annexed by Moscow in 2014, the entire Luhansk region, over 80% of Donetsk region, as well as 75% of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions. The Donbas region is mainly composed of Luhansk and Donetsk.
