(Bandar Seri Begawan, 29th) Recently, the 19th Asia-Pacific Elementary School Math Olympiad, hosted by Chung Hwa Middle School in Brunei, successfully concluded. Two students from Chung Hwa Middle School won individual gold and silver awards, marking another achievement in the school's mathematics education.
The event was held recently at the Chung Hwa campus, with 35 top students from Chung Hwa Middle School in Brunei, Chung Hwa Middle School in Kuala Belait, and Chung Cheng Middle School in Seria competing intensely. Ultimately, student Huang Yiwei from Chung Hwa Middle School stood out with strong mathematical skills and adaptability, winning the individual gold award, while student Chen Yuyang won the individual silver award, a commendable achievement!
This morning (28th), Huang Yiwei, the gold medalist, left Brunei to Singapore accompanied by Ho Ji Piau, the head of the mathematics department at Chung Hwa, to represent the Brunei winners in the Asia-Pacific Olympiad finals held at Hwa Chong Institution.
As one of the most influential elementary math competitions in the Asian region, the competition aims to inspire Asia-Pacific youth's enthusiasm for mathematical exploration, cultivate logical thinking and innovation abilities, discover talented individuals in mathematics, and improve the mathematics level of primary schools, enriching their life experiences. Chung Hwa has been hosting this event for the nineteenth year.
Principal Xu Yuelan of Chung Hwa stated that hosting the annual Asia-Pacific Elementary School Math Olympiad not only provides students with valuable international competition experience and builds a bridge between Brunei and the Asia-Pacific math education community but also strengthens and enhances the innovative thinking ability of local youth and stimulates their interest in learning mathematics.
She pointed out that the school will continue to optimize the mathematics education system and encourage more students to participate in international competitions to cultivate math talents with a global perspective for Brunei and the world.
